Supply Chain Data for AI Training: What Manufacturers and Distributors Can License

By Andrew Smart, founder of MON$TER · About

Manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers and supply chain software companies sit on years of operating history: what was ordered, when it arrived, how much stock sat on the shelf, and how forecasts compared with what really happened. AI teams building planning, purchasing and forecasting tools need real examples like these, and almost none of it is on the public web.

What buyers usually look for

Longer, consistent history is worth more than a single busy year. If your systems hold five or more years of clean records, that is a strong starting point. Freight and delivery operators have their own angle, covered in logistics data for AI training.

What stays out

Personal information about employees, drivers or customer contacts must be removed before anyone sees the data. Supplier contracts often include confidentiality terms, so negotiated prices and other partners' private details may need to be masked or left out entirely. Check your customer and supplier agreements before licensing anything. This is general information, not legal advice. See what counts as PII and is it legal to sell business data to AI?

What it can pay

Published MON$TER ranges: an exclusive one-time sale typically lands at $50K-$1M, and a non-exclusive recurring license typically runs $300K-$3M per year. No amount is guaranteed and not every company qualifies. Compare the two in recurring vs. one-time deals.

How to start

List the systems you run on, how many years of history each holds, and any contract limits. Buyers see a description of your data first, never your raw files. Start at Business Data or try the data value calculator.
