How to Sell (or License) Your Company's Data to AI Companies
AI labs training the next generation of models are running out of scraped internet data — they increasingly pay real companies directly for real operational history: transaction records, CRM activity, support logs, and workflow data that shows how a business actually runs day to day.
The process most buyers use looks roughly like this:
- Qualify — buyers generally want at least a few years of consistent operating history on the same core systems, real B2B or product-generated data (not just a customer list), and a business that's been operating more than about 18 months.
- De-identify — no personal information travels. The data is anonymized: names, contacts, and anything personally identifying come out before a buyer ever sees a sample.
- Price it — a one-time exclusive sale to a single buyer typically runs $50K-$1M; a recurring, non-exclusive license across multiple buyers typically runs $300K-$3M/year and tends to grow instead of shrink (see why MON$TER defaults to recurring).
- License — instead of taking one buyer's first offer, the strongest outcomes usually come from putting the (anonymized) data in front of several qualified buyers at once, so the price is set by competition rather than one company's opening number.
